Catallaxy Financial Studio

Accounting for businesses that don't fit neatly into the box.

Bitcoin. Fiat. Emerging industries. Complicated businesses. The ones traditional firms often side eye or just don't know what to do with.

I do!

Catallaxy is a small financial studio for businesses operating a little outside the usual lines…businesses that are a little harder to account for… and usually harder to find good accountants for.

I work with businesses using Bitcoin in any capacity, from companies simply accepting a few customer payments in bitcoin to businesses that use it as their unit of account.

I also work with businesses operating in unconventional, emerging, or misunderstood spaces.

You probably know who you are.

Services I currently offer

All of this applies whether your business is brand new or been running for years, and whether you've got clean books, a mess, or nothing at all yet.

Cleanup & Reconstruction

Messy books happen. I've seen it all, from a couple things out of place to total chaos.

I'll go through what's there, figure out what happened, clean up what's wrong, and get the books back to a place where they make sense.

Sometimes that means fixing a few things. Sometimes it means basically reconstructing the whole thing.

Ongoing Bookkeeping

The normal stuff: categorization, reconciliations, journal entries, AP/AR, month-end close and financial reporting. I work primarily in QuickBooks Online, so if you're on something else, tell me and we'll figure out if it's a fit.

Just done properly, and with an understanding of what's actually happening underneath the transactions.

Books closed on a consistent, timely schedule, every month, on time, so you're always working from current numbers and can manage cash flow instead of finding out where you stand two months late.

Bitcoin & Digital Asset Accounting

There aren't many accountants who genuinely understand Bitcoin beyond the basics. I think I'm one of them. Whether you're fully on a Bitcoin standard or just dealing with it alongside fiat, the books should be able to keep up with both.

Bitcoin transactions are still transactions. They just don't always behave like the ones your average bookkeeping software was built around.

I'll help make sense of what's happening across your digital assets and get it into a financial system you can use.

And if your business is doing something weird with Bitcoin, I'd much rather hear about it than pretend it isn't happening.

Financial Operations & Office Management

The constant stuff between the books and the business, plus the office logistics that come with running one.

Payroll. Benefits administration. Insurance administration. Basic HR. Bill pay. Inventory management. Cash flow visibility. Figuring out where the money is going before it becomes a problem.

Basically, the stuff that needs to happen whether or not anyone feels like dealing with it.

Systems & Automation

If you or your bookkeeper is doing something manually every month that a computer should be doing, let's fix that.

I'll help build cleaner accounting systems and workflows that are more reliable, easier to maintain, and less dependent on one person knowing how everything works.

And I'll make sure the person using the system knows how it works when I pass it off.

I like complicated businesses.

Some businesses are easy to account for. Then there are the businesses where the books don't tell the whole story.

Multiple entities. Multiple currencies. Unusual payment flows. Complicated inventory. Digital assets. International operations. A clever business model that makes perfect sense to you and almost no sense to the average bookkeeper.

That's where I come in.

I'm Jenna, and my accounting career started blazing the trail in legalized hemp, before the 2018 Farm Bill even passed.

That was a pretty wild place to learn accounting and laid a strong foundation.

I had to know the laws multiple states and countries, inside and out. Banking was complicated. Keeping the company and its employees protected meant knowing exactly what documentation was required and where the lines were. There were opportunities in the way the laws were written, but you also had to understand that some of those opportunities weren't going to exist forever.

So we got creative.

I was involved in pioneering tolling split arrangements for a $50MM-revenue hemp company, using the structure to create cash flow without putting up the capital upfront. We were one of the first to secure a fully disclosed hemp banking relationship and a $200K line of credit, that was unheard of in the industry at that time. I also helped secure a seven-figure R&D tax credit for a brand new industry.

The books weren't exactly straightforward either. We had to figure out how to value inventory that wasn't always particularly tangible, account for unusual payment terms and tolling arrangements, and make sure the accounting reflected what was happening underneath the business.

It was complicated. It was unconventional. I loved it and I still prefer working that way.

Who I work well with

Unconventional & complex businesses

Especially unconventional businesses and businesses using Bitcoin

I like to work with companies where the business itself is the interesting part.

The business that doesn't have a nice, clean accounting template. The founder doing something a little differently. The company moving between monetary systems, growing faster than the back office can keep up, or operating in a space most accountants don't really understand or prefer not to touch.

You might not need a full time controller yet. You might just need someone who can look at the whole thing, figure out what's going on, and help you build the financial side of the business around it.

That's usually where I fit.

I'm looking for founders who'd rather have an accountant who asks “why?” than one who just asks for the bank statement.

Any business just getting started

If you're running everything out of a personal Venmo, doing your thing, making it work, but you're not totally sure what doing it "the right way" even looks like, I'd love to help.

Doesn't matter what the business is. If you're out here doing something and need help getting your shit together to make it official, that's exactly my thing.

I can help you form the business, get an EIN, open a real business account, and build a system that isn't held together with Venmo screenshots, explaining it as we go, not assuming you speak accountant.

Doing the thing is what makes it real. The paperwork can catch up.
